A married couple was fast asleep when the phone suddenly rang at 2 in the morning. Startled and half-awake, the wife grabbed the phone from the nightstand.

She listened for a few seconds, squinting in confusion. Then she snapped, “How should I know? That’s 200 miles from here!” and hung up without another word.

Her husband, still groggy, lifted his head from the pillow.

“Who was that?”

The wife shrugged. “Some idiot asking if the coast was clear.”
